Our logo is designed after our labrador, Duncan. My wife, Lizzie, got Duncan when he was 8 weeks old. When I first met Lizzie, Duncan was about 6 months old. Duncan was a constant in our life from the very beginning. We got him certified as a therapy dog where he would make his rounds at the hospital. He even dressed up as Sven (from Disney’s Frozen) when he visited the Children’s Hospital. Everyone loved Duncan. At 115 pounds he was a gentle giant and never met a stranger. Duncan was with us when we got engaged in Greenville and then traveled with us to Colorado for fellowship. He was a big part of our wedding. He walked down the aisle with me and laid in front of us as we exchanged vows. He moved to Dallas with us for my first job and then back to Greenville, his first and forever home. He’s been with us for the birth of all three of our children, and has always been the best “big brother” to them.
As we all know, pets never live long enough. Unfortunately, Duncan passed away in April of 2025 as we were building American Orthopedics. When creating a logo for our new practice, we tried all kinds of different ideas ranging from images of different bones or fancy lettering or creative symbols. Ultimately, we decided on a side profile sketch of Duncan, which was created by Lizzie’s sister, Mary. We felt that there was no better way to honor Duncan and to allow his legacy to live on than for him to be the symbol of American Orthopedics going forward. Furthermore, we felt there is nothing more “American” than a pet labrador. We hope that our practice embodies the loyalty, friendliness, and compassion that Duncan lived out every day. Duncan was a true legend and he will always be remembered.
